FAQs

If you’re after a bit more information about The Lifeboat Crew project or about the Crew itself, this is the place to start. If you can’t find an answer to your question here, then just drop us a line.

What is the project about?

The aim of the project is to raise awareness of the valuable work done around our coasts by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and its crews. With my intrepid band of LEGO minifigures, I’ll be bringing you stories, photos and important water safety messages. Find out more about the project here.

Why are you doing this?

Because the work of the RNLI is really important and I want more people to know about it. My late father worked for the RNLI for many years, both in the charity’s head office and out on the coast. Now it’s my turn to help, but in my own way.

Where can I find your stuff?

You can find us on Twitter @thelifeboatcrew and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/lifeboatcrew. And, of course, we’re also here on our website.

How frequently do you post new stories and photos?

We try to post something on Twitter and Facebook most days. And we aim to write a new longer post for our website about once a week, usually on a Tuesday. This can vary a bit, though, depending on the demands of the day job. (Sorry.)

Where will you and the little guys be visiting?

We’ll be going wherever our work and leisure travel plans take us. As we live in Somerset, much of what we do will probably be in the South West. But work and holidays do periodically take us further afield, so you can expect stories and photos from other parts of the country, too.

Can you come and visit our RNLI station, boat, crew or event?

We’d love to. And we’d be delighted to take some photos and feature your station, boat, crew, activity or event on this website and on our Twitter and Facebook feeds. Just let us know what you have in mind and we’ll see what we can do. The little guys don’t do commercial endorsements (and they’re not very talkative, to be honest), but they love to get out and about around our coasts.

What else will you be doing?

In addition to the stories and photos with the little guys, I’ll also be sharing some of the tall and not-so-tall tales from the lifeboat service of my youth, which I hope will make you smile when you read them as much as I smile from remembering them.

The LEGO minifigures are amazing. Where can I get some?

The little guys were custom made for me by the lovely people at minifigs.me. If you talk to them, I’m sure they’ll be able to help you out. And do feel free to say that you heard about them from us. We’re not on commission, but a little goodwill can’t hurt…

Can I use your stories, photos or other content for my own project?

The copyright for the text and images on this website and on our Twitter and Facebook feeds is owned by me, Simon Perks. Because of the restrictions on using pictures of the LEGO minifigures, I’d be grateful if you would respect my copyright and refrain from using any of my material elsewhere. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
